André D. Carson (born October 16, 1974) is the U.S. Representative for Indiana's 7th congressional district, in office since a special election in 2008. The district includes the southern four-fifths of Indianapolis, including downtown. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He is the grandson of his predecessor, former U.S. Representative Julia Carson (1938–2007). Carson was the second Muslim to be elected to the United States Congress, following Keith Ellison of Minnesota in 2006.

People are always judging you based on where you're from, where you went to school, how you look, how you talk. But at the end of the day, you're going to have to look into the mirror and accept who you are. It's all about being authentic.

Bottom line is, you're not going to win the war against terrorism without the help of Muslims... as well as Hindus and a lot of other groups. That's a no-brainer. Many attacks have been thwarted because of information coming from people of different faiths.

To some people, power is a noun. To others, it's a verb.

People see me as Andre first. Then they see me as someone who happens to be a Muslim.
